OBLIQUE ANGLE FILM CLUB: on movies and mental health. Our inaugural meeting kicked off with screening of “A Death In The Gunj”. An immersive and haunting narrative of a troubled young man heading towards disaster. The group had wide ranging opinions on mental health and its associated stigma, and polarised views on how mental wellbeing or illness could be depicted in the movies or addressed in the community. Health professionals and educators shared their difficulty in adequately addressing the communities needs. Questions were raised about the utility of applying western therapeutic techniques to Indian settings. As we closed, we all agreed that we needed more such spaces where open conversations could be had regularly.
Apart from a nominal fee of 100/-, participants were encouraged to donate to the host venue. Skylight Academy is a progressive school for underprivileged children set in the heart of the city and works beyond just academic education of children.
