Commemorating Alzheimer’s Month, our September book club discussion was on “Still Alice” by Lisa Genova at the Kavade Attic. As usual, it was an active, reflective group and conversation ranged from the suffering of people affected by the illness to the helpless dilemma of the care givers. The book gives a striking, poignant account of the shifting inside world of someone losing their memory, and the different ways in which each family member tries to adapt. We discussed the innovative work being done by clinicians and care givers in Bangalore and how communities can come together to support each other and help cope better with Alzheimer’s.
