De-escalation and co-regulation are fundamental skills for mental health practitioners, particularly when working with clients experiencing heightened distress, agitation, or crisis.
Navigating these moments requires clinicians to recognise signs of escalation, respond in ways that support safety and regulation, and know how to move forward when a difficult interaction has impacted the therapeutic relationship. In this three-hour online Skills Lab, we will explore a step-by-step approach to de-escalation through different crisis scenarios, with a focus on practical skills for calming an agitated client, repairing ruptures, and re-engaging in the therapeutic process.
Before the Skills Lab
Participants are encouraged to complete Part 1: De-escalation in Therapy before attending the live Skills Lab.
Part 1 is a 45 – 60 minute self-paced online course that introduces the foundational concepts and techniques of de-escalation. Completing it beforehand will provide a useful grounding in the basics and allow participants to engage more deeply with the case-based and practical learning during the live session.
