Basic training in MBT

Mentalization Based Treatment (MBT) is an innovative evidence based treatment developed by Drs Anthony Bateman and Peter Fonagy initially for the treatment of borderline personality disorder(BPD), now used on a wide range of disorders. Mentalization based interventions form a core component of working with mothers and babies, and with adolescents who self-harm. Participants of this three-day training course will learn the necessary skills to implement MBT techniques in their clinical practice. Emphasis will be placed on equipping participants to maintain a therapist stance to facilitate client mentalizing.

This differs from the therapist attitude used in other treatment modalities. Participants will have an opportunity to discuss and role play a range of difficult but common clinical situations. Attendance of this Basic Training Course in MBT is the first step required toward becoming a recognised MBT practitioner.

Who can apply?

Suitable for psychiatrists, psychologists and counsellors with at least two-three years of clinical experience following masters training. Some experience with Borderline Personality Disorder and/complex trauma is desirable but not mandatory.
